The photographic work of
Ken McDermott BA (Hons) PHOTOGRAPHY
If you would like to learn how to use a camera professionally both in terms of composition and with the technical aspects,
then I offer a course here tailor made especially to suit you personally. It doesn't matter how photographically proficient
you are, I cater for all levels of ability and knowhow.
We'll need to have an initial chat to see where you are and where you want to get to. We can do that over a cup of coffee
here at the studio, with absolutely no obligation to take it any further and no high pressure sales tactics from me to try to
persuade you either.
Please take a look at the gallery. This will enable you to have an idea of the various effects and genres which are all
available to you, as well as many, many more, that are not shown there.
The tuition offered will take you through the basics right up to an advanced level in both photography and in the use of
digital manipulation and post processing software such as Photoshop.
Photoshop is a vast programme and it is also an extremely powerful one too. It is probably the best software to use for
anyone wishing to undertake digital photography seriously. I'll teach you to utilise and maximise some the massive
potential this software contains.
Phase 1, Photography. You can take the lessons at your own pace. You can take a single one hour lesson at a time, or if
you want you can book a full studio day, going through photographic techniques, learning the use of studio flash,
photographing a model, location shooting, using flash guns and strobists techniques and then putting all that you have
photographed into the second phase, which is the post processing stage. The choice is yours whether it takes two days or
Phase 2, Digital Manipulation. You'll learn about good workflow practices, how to make global changes to your files, how
to optimise your files along with various methods of visual enhancements, such as realistic airbrushing that doesn't look
like a wax work, or how to provide instant weight loss at the touch of a button. You'll learn about monitor calibration and
printing, using printer and paper profiles so that what you see on your screen is what your print looks like. You'll learn how
to use a large format printer and also how to optimise the exact same picture for web use and still retain its integrity.
Obviously you do not have to do both phases, if for instance you are converting from film to digital then maybe you'll only
need to do Phase 2. Whereas, if you are a graphic designer then possibly you would only need to do Phase 1
Tuition Fee is £25.00 per hour.
